Emulsion Life Span - Screen Print Direct

For a lot of us screen printers (hobbyist, small shop, etc.) a quart of emulsion can go a long way. Now we all know that emulsion is one of those products that needs to be used or you will eventually have to dispose of it.

For the screen printers that coat a screen every now and then, pay attention because this one is for you. If you won’t be using your screen printing emulsion for a while throw it in your fridge. This will pretty much put it in hibernation mode and will help preserve itself until it's ready to be used again. When you are ready to coat screens again, take it out and let acclimate itself to the room temperature before you try to coat your screen. This will extend your emulsions life compared to leaving it on the shelf in a shop with temperatures that are constantly changing.

Does the 12 months start from the time you open the container or the manufacture date? I bought some for a class I was teaching and we didn’t get a chance to dive into that study unit. Its been setting on a shelf, still sealed int he box, in my office for more than 12 months.
